Surviving on a Poisoned Planet A Wake-Up CallThe Los Angeles Times - Washington Post News Service reported in July 2005 that the General Accountability Office found that the US Environment and Protection Agency (EPA) are failing to protect the public from thousand of potentially toxic chemicals. Of 85,000 newly invented industrial chemicals introduced over the last 35 years, the EPA has gathered data on only 15% regarding their health risks, and has banned the use of only four. Included are many substances that people are exposed to in everyday products, such as flame retardants in furniture and electronics and various chemicals in cosmetics and plastics known to cause cancers, birth defects, altered sex hormones and damage to developing brains. Man is more the product of his environment than of his genetic endowment. Chlorpyrifos (Dursban) is the most popular insecticide in the USA and is contained in nearly 1,000 different products. These products are used in homes, schools, and nurseries, a concern currently being studied by the University of Rutgers. Cleaners and detergents contain solvents that are usually highly flammable, as well as, toxic. Currently, manufacturers in the USA are not required to identify hazardous chemicals on their labels. If the product label instructs you to wear gloves or use only in a ventilated area these are the best indication that there is something the manufacturer wants you to keep from breathing or absorbing through your skin! From bug sprays to laundry detergents, paint removers to baby powders, organic products are available to replace non eco-friendly products. Be weary of the thousands of products made in China or other poor countries. Recall the contaminated blood thinner heparin or the melamin contaminated milk, toothpaste and rice. You cannot have western style standards applied, when half the population earns less than two Dollars per hour. The melamin was an intentional addition to milk by more than 22 companies to cheat quality control tests on protein contents. The problem is that many multinationals depend on Chinese products in their manufacturing. Moving to another poor contry like Vietnam or Bangladesh is not the answer. I guranteee that we shall continue to “discover” new contaminations in our food supplies, despite the televised crackdowns and government reassurances that follow each recall. Plastic, plastic everywhere… Avoid freezing or heating food in plastics or washing babies’ plastic bottles in the dishwasher. Degraded plastic leaches out foreign estrogens also called '‘xeno-estrogens''. Xeno-estrogens are not only carcinogenic, but they bind to hormone receptors in the cells, fooling the body into thinking it does not need to produce the needed hormones.
Lead. Evaluations of human bones from the 16th century indicate that modern men have as much as 1,000 times more lead accumulated in their bodies.
Increased lead levels age and destroy the kidneys, make your blood cells brittle and lower the IQ of children. Despite many countries abandoning the use of leaded petrol, lead levels in our environment remain very high. All fossil fuels, such as coal and oil used to generate electricity produce lead that finds its way into the atmosphere and ground water. Additional sources include poorly glazed ceramics, cosmetics, news print and hair colorings. Wash your hands from traces of newspaper print before eating your breakfast. While lead is less toxic than mercury, lead is a much more wide spread contaminant. Remember the lead contaminated toys made in China for Mattel. Mercury. This is one of the most toxic heavy metals, as it causes rapid brain neuron degeneration. There is really no safe level for this metal. It is closely linked with senile dementia and Alzheimer’s. Fish stocks from most parts of the world are now found to contain mercury in their tissues, particularly large fish such as tuna, shark and swordfish. Studies have shown that 100% of fish from the Mediterranean Sea contain mercury. So it is a simple equation, if you eat fish you are consuming mercury. Mercury cannot be destroyed by heat or by cooking. Countries that still use silver-mercury containing amalgams could be endangering their citizens. One of the most damaging practices I have seen in the Middle East is when some unscrupulous dentists cover the decaying and unsightly black silver fillings which contain 50% mercury with composites to make them look better while they continue to leak. My dentist tells me that her profession is now among those with the greatest risk of Alzheimer’s because dentists are regularly removing silver mercury fillings and breathing in the drilled-out vapors. Many European countries banned mercury filled dental amalgams while the USA still allows it. I had my six fillings removed by a bio-dentist after I discovered an alarming elevation of mercury in my urine. A bio-dentist uses special high irrigation drill and powerful suction machines during the removal to prevent traces of vapor from migrating from your teeth to your brain. It is advisable to prepare your body in advance of the procedure, by ingesting several weeks' worth of chelating and antioxidant agents such as aged garlic and L- Carnetine, a precursor for the powerful but hard to absorb detoxifying agent Glutathione. While manufacturers stopped adding mercury to children’s vaccines, they are still being sent as a “gift” to African nations. Many adult flu vaccines still contain mercury. Additional sources of mercury include adhesives, fabric softeners and wood preservatives. Thimerosal was commonly found as a preservative in most early vaccines and is found in contact lens solutions. Europe has recently banned the use of mercury in thermostats designed to measure body temperature. Titanium: is a mixture of aluminum and nickel. When two metals are mixed together they create a small battery effect where they start robbing electrons from tissues and oxidize them. I have seen that in the gum of patients who receive titanium teeth implants and I have seen the blackened joint of artificial hips prior to replacement. A better alternative is Zirconium one piece tooth implants.
Arsenic. Arsenic leads to cancer of the lungs, bladder, kidneys and to blood vessel disease. It is found in shell fish and fruits and vegetables that were sprayed with pesticides. It is also found in manufacturing glass, wallpaper and detergents.
Cadmium. Ingested cadmium is deposited in the kidneys and prostate gland causing cancers and elevation of blood pressure. The biggest source of cadmium is found in cadmium contaminated tobacco products, as well as, in the polluted air around those who smoke. It can also be found in paint solvents, plastics and batteries. Of all the heavy metals cadmium is the hardest to remove from the body through the use of chelating agents. Switch the car AC to the "air recycling mode" to minimize inhaling fumes from the vehicle ahead of you. Keeping a bigger distance between you and the car ahead is not only safer for driving but also better for your health! We all should do what we can to minimize our exposure to toxins but none of us can completely avoid them. Eating a fresh variety of Vitamin C rich fruits and vegetables and being kind to our overtaxed body by avoiding alcohol and cigarettes can be very helpful. You are exposed to enough toxins without these. Avoid taking medications on a regular basis especially for minor complaints that frequently time and relaxation can cure. The active ingredient in garlic, allicin, is a powerful antibiotic and can help the body excrete some of the mercury and lead that would otherwise accumulate in our brain and bones. Finally, exercise and drink a lot of water. Exercise melts fat, releasing contaminates out of the cells and helps enhance the lymphatic system utilized in clearing toxins. Water not only flushes these toxins out of the body, it is needed to regularly cleanse every organ in our body. Do not wait until you are thirsty. Keep a bottle of water close by. As the saying goes the best solution for pollution is dilution. Whenever you can, drink... and make your first drink of choice water. Plants improve air quality in the room because they produce oxygen and remove pollutants from the air. Philodendrons, spider plants and Golden Pothos are the most efficient. Water Quality You may not be aware that only 2-3% of the world's water is fresh, it has all been drunk at least twice before being recycled! In Germany, a random examination of tap water sampled from different towns across the country showed that they were all contaminated with progesterone found in female contraceptive pills. In many countries, compulsory fluoridation of water is now common place, not to mention the regular addition of other chemicals such as chlorine. Chlorine significantly inhibits DNA repair enzymes. While municipal water is pumped to houses after treatment, it frequently sits in water tanks on top of the roof accumulating dirt, pigeon feces and mold. Get a professional to clean the tank twice per year. Reverse osmosis water filters are the only filters capable of removing arsenic, lead and fluorides from the water entering your home. Everyone should install one and change its filter as per manufacturer recommendations. Air pollution inside your house.
Too many people get discouraged after reading this section; pollution is everywhere, with nothing we as individuals can do except use less gasoline and plastic and perhaps find ways to use more solar and wind energy.
While it is true that our body has an amazing ability to handle a lot of toxins, there is a limit. It takes years for us to get rid of some of the accumulating poisons in our body. Rather than lose hope, we should minimize pollution as much as we can and give our body the nutrition, vitamins and supplements it needs to deal with those we can’t. The key is to help our body get rid of more toxins than we are taking in. Detoxification programs that does need medical supervision. Click here for the VitaSuge Products |
